For 49 years, I lived a life of putting everyone’s needs ahead of mine, believing that was how to show love. From childhood, I thought, if I could just do and be what everyone needed or wanted from me, (parents, family, peers, teachers, you name it), they would love me and know that I loved them. This then bled into adulthood, and especially in my marriage, and as a mother. It was physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting and, despite my best efforts, it was rarely enough.
In 2018, facing a divorce, single parenthood, and an identity crisis - Who was I after 26 years, more than half of my life, as a wife and mom?, - it started to register that, maybe I had been going about this seeking and showing love thing the wrong way.
It was in taking that first step, and braving many storms that threatened to wipe me out, that I came out on the other side so much stronger than I ever imagined possible.
They say, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” We do not need to know where that journey will take us, nor do we have to make it alone. Whether you are working to let someone go, or bring someone in, I am here to partner with and support you on this journey of healing and discovery.
